Jamaica's religious affiliation not surprising

Dear Editor,

The 2011 census report on religious affiliation reveals that the masses of the Jamaican people gravitate towards revivalism, pentecostalism, evangelicalism and the charismatic churches that practise deliverance ministries.

This is not surprising to me because these forms of worship resonate with our traditional African theosophical concepts of the supernatural deity, His relationship to the human being and His intervention in human affairs in the here and now. Practitioners of theosophy use rituals, rites, incantations and sacramental practices to invoke and propitiate the supernatural deity for the salvation of the individual here and now from suffering and to obtain healing and prosperity.

In Christianity — An Ancient Egyptian Religion, the author, Ahmed Osman, reveals that baptism, circumcision and the observance of the paschal feast are ancient Egyptian religious rituals.
