Dear Editor,
I wish to voice my opinion about the recent controversy with regard to the unauthorised sexual education programme that was implemented in six privately operated children's homes.
Let me ask this question? Where was Minister of Youth and Culture Lisa Hanna in this matter? Ever since she was gifted with this portfolio, she has been a big disappointment with her management skills.
Among the noted controversies are the Festival Song Competition controversy, the sprinkling of salt controversy in 2013 at the United Theological College to ward off 'crosses' at the event, the co-mingling of children and adults at detention facilities controversy, and now the sex education controversy.
I can recall her colleague Phillip Paulwell's NetServ debacle in 2002, which popularised the "youthful exuberance" response by then Prime Minister P J Patterson. Will Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller give Hanna a slap on the back and then coined this fiasco "beautiful exuberance" as an ode to her?
I am of the view that the insertion of this controversial content was strategically done to cultivate a gay-friendly culture in Jamaica, whereby starting with the very young.
It appears that Carolyn Gomes is the 'fall guy' and she has fallen on her sword for Hanna and Ronald Thwaites.
In light of Dr Carolyn Gomes taking full responsibility, I believe that more heads should roll starting with Lisa Hanna. Over to you, Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller, the people are awaiting your swift response in this matter or should we not hold our breath.
