After reading the horrific experience of mothers at the Victoria Jubilee Hospital in the Sunday Observer I wondered what my experience would be when I was told to rush my 22-month-old to the May Pen Hospital.
It was 4:30 pm on Monday, August 4, 2014 when I had to rush my son to the Accident and Emergency Department (A&E) of the May Pen Hospital. I must tell you the service was exceptional.
From my first encounter with the nurse to the doctors of the A&E, to registration and back to the Room 2 nurses, all was good.
Hoping to go home minutes to 10 when the procedure was completed, I was told that he needed to be admitted for observation. The wait was long, but I must say it was worth it.
He was discharged at almost 4:00 pm on Tuesday, and I must confess that I got very impatient at the appointment window standing there at the front of the line for almost half-hour without being attended to. I did voice how poor that service was; but the lady told me she was alone. I told her I understood but she should have come earlier to say she would be with me in half-hour and I wouldn't have had a problem.
All in all, not sleeping for 24 hours had its effect on me. Sitting and standing for the long hours was worth it, after all my child felt better.
Thanks to Drs Oo, Mcfarlane, their colleagues in the A&E and the nurses. On the Paediatric Ward, thanks to Drs Knight, Anglin, Welcome, Newell, Miller and others. I could not forget the ward assistant at A&E, who ensured she double-cleaned the bathroom before my son used it. Thanks a million. The future of the institution is bright.
