Dear Editor,
The death of Mario Deane while in police custody for a ganja spliff reminds us quite starkly that, although the police force has been undergoing some positive change, there is still a lot left to be improved.
It seems that even though the police have charged two labourers for the murder, they are the only ones who believe that this charge is justified.
Jamaicans "jus ah kiss dem teet". Only a few, if anybody, believes this story.
Some comments include: "If it was a rich man pickney," or "If him did 'ave money, it neh wud go so!"
We cannot just allow this death to go by without serious investigation. INDECOM needs to get involved here. The public needs to know what happened to Mario. We need to know how he died. It is in this type of situation that we need Jamaicans for Justice to be involved, but alas they are in disarray.
We need justice for Mario and his family.
