Dear Editor,
I just finished listening to an interview by Cliff Hughes with Ralston Hyman and Aubyn Hill, financial analysts. Both men agreed, Hyman rather reluctantly, that Jamaica's economy if it is not to suffer fatigue, must begin growing.
They posited that re-engineering of the Cabinet was essential and the non-performing ministers have to be jettisoned. Those atop the list were Roger "Usain Bolt" Clarke, Anthony "Scrap Metal" Hylton, and Phillip "Teflon" Paulwell. These are the non-performers, in their opinion.
Clarke is convinced that Jamaica needs him, like we we need a toothache. We really need his farms manager; that's the man that can perform. Sometimes your workers make you look exceptional.
Hylton has failed to clearly and effectively explain to us and, probably more importantly, Richard Byles, the head of the Economic Programme Oversight Committee, how the proposed Jamaica Logistics Hub will work. Byles is the International Monetary Fund's poster boy, not Dr Peter Phillips.
What can we say about Paulwell, the teflon king. He is seemingly untouchable and remains "youthfully exuberant" and his hands are always clean.
The minister of education is making some progress and Dorian "Mongrel dawg" Dixon shouldn't make waves. He promised that there will be no more frostbite for members of the Jamaica Teachers' Association (JTA), hence no wage freeze.
Co-convenor of human rights group Citizens Action for Principle and Integrity, Dennis Meadows, seems poised to overtake Jamaicans For Justice (JFJ), spurred on by Mario Deane's killing.
Acting Public Defender Matondo K Mukulu is concerned that human rights bodies are not answerable to the State. We don't care. They were the only ones that stood between us and a cruel, uncaring justice system, and a police force that acted with impunity, they should be strengthened. We don't care where their funding comes from, they have stood the test of time and the poor is forever grateful.
