Catch up to reality, Ministry of Health

Dear Editor,

It looks like the Ministry of Health is either terribly incompetent or in a deep state of denial.

Last week I endured a bad rash, serious pain in my joints, swelling and a fever. This lasted for several days. My doctor said that it must be chikungunya, but I wasn't tested. He ordered me to take paracetamol, drink plenty of fluids, and so on. My doctor said he had seen about roughly 26 similar cases in the same week.

Now, if one doctor in Portmore has seen so many similar cases in one week, clearly something is wrong.

Dr Fenton Ferguson, the minister, along with Drs Marion Ducasse-Bullock and Andrei Cooke who have ultimate responsibility, seemingly dropped the ball, big time.

Even now, they are still engaged in a major exercise in futility, nit-picking at their very low confirmed case count while thousands of Jamaicans by now are out searching for Panadol and drinking water "til it outta style".

It is time for the ministry to catch up to reality. The number of infected cases is growing rapidly.
