Wants to help rape victims

Dear Editor,

Where did all the noise surrounding the upsurge of rapes and other types of violence against women and children go? Was it just a nine-day wonder as we are accustomed to in Jamaica after incidents like those happen?

Nothing was wrong with people wearing black to show solidarity or having talk shows, etc, but we need to put more action into all the talking.

Many people believe that we should do our part, no matter how small it is - whether reporting such incidents or being a volunteer.

As a 22-year-old, I tried to do my part, even in light of the fact that some people believe that many young people are wayward nowadays. At the moment, I would like to be a volunteer with Hear The Children's Cry, headed by Mrs Betty Ann Blaine.

I do not wish to wait until I fulfil my dream of becoming a human rights lawyer and a women's and children's advocate in order to do my part.
