Dear Editor,
With the recent claims that the People's National Party (PNP) will will in the next general election, we must seriously ask ourselves if the PNP delivered on the promises made in 2011 and if they deserve another term. Well, do they?
Did we get the chicken back and oxtail they promised?
Did they repair the damage (or even tried) that they themselves caused over the past 20 plus years?
Did the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) do worse in the short time they were in power?
Were 2007-2011 really the "lost" years?
Do we love the Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller's deafening silence on the issues plaguing society now?
Did we get the 360-MW power plant that was promised?
Do we think the $60 million the Government spent on new vehicles or the $350 million in total spent on galas was worth it and made significant contribution to our lives?
Do we think the jump from $85 to almost $112 per US dollar is good?
If the answer is yes to any of these questions, then we're just fooling ourselves. The PNP has done nothing to deserve another term. And yet with the high crime rate, poverty, and outbreak of the chikungunya virus, they have decided to focus on winning elections, of all things.
I'm no fan of the JLP, or Andrew Holness, but they have always been the "lesser evil". In the "lost 4 years", crime was down and the dollar was stable. And, say what we want about Bruce Golding and James Robertson, at least they had the dignity to resign when their characters were being questioned. Not so for the PNP, no conscience.
So voters, let's think twice when deciding who to vote for.
