Dear Editor,
The cartoon of the late minister of agriculture which showed him at the passsport office highlights the problem of insecurity in our communities.
Foreigners engaged in farming in Jamaica are helpless to protect themselves from the constant menace of stray goats that attack farm produce. When goats penetrate farmlands and eat up crops there are serious effects.
ln my community in Priestmas River, l counsel some people that, in the event of goats attacking their crops, they should use dialogue to settle this conflict with the goat owners. However, fights have resulted that ended at the police station.
This goat culture of attacking farmers' crops must be changed. There should be no reason a hard-working farmer should lose his crops at the hands of heartless goat owners.
