PM, you can't see the front from behind

Dear Editor,

The other evening I was watching television when a seemingly agitated Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller appeared on the screen complaining bitterly that her leadership style was being criticised by the press and others.

She vehemently defended her style of leading from behind and said that if any minister was not performing she would know what to do.

There is nothing wrong with that approach, but the only problem is that when you are leading from behind you can't see what is taking place in front.

Is it therefore any wonder that the foreign exchange reserves have dropped by over US$636 million since January and the dollar is almost in free fall? Three thousand people or positions, according to Minister Phillips, will be made redundant with a similar number joining the unemployed in December.

The people elect leaders to lead from in front, not from behind. But it appears that after the PNP won the December 2011 election by the resounding margin of 2:1, they are now more than convinced that Jamaica is PNP country so they can do anything and get away with it.
