Dear Editor,
As a citizen of Jamaica, I often wondered what it takes to become a board member of a government-run entity.
I have always had the belief that I have the skill sets, academic qualification, leadership experience, and ability to make a change.
I have never been approached by any of the political parties, so I am using this medium, Madam Prime Minister, to apply for a 'job' as a board member -- any government board will do.
On second thought, upon reviewing my request I believe that I am being unreasonable, and as such withdraw my application for the 'job'.
I have clearly forgotten that my skill sets are not the required competences needed to serve as a board member. I won't make a decision based on party colour, but rather on what is best for that entity and my Jamaican people because I understand the meaning and importance of good governance.
I believe in the concept of collective responsibility, so I would be willing to resign if I made an error of judgement as a board member. I think this disqualifies me.
I don't believe in protecting the status quo and would be willing to challenge anyone, anything or any decision that does not appear to be in the best interest of the entity which I might serve or its stakeholders.
Moreover, I am not a member of any political party.
Madam Prime Minister, do understand why I had to redraw my application and accept my apology for my transgression. I look forward to holding on to my current position which provides me with an opportunity to use the tools that I have been blessed with to lead people and operate in an environment where I can be held accountable for my performance.
