Dear Editor,
This is an open letter to Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller:
I find myself wondering, pondering what will be your legacy when you leave office. I lie awake trying to figure out what is it that Portia Lucretia Simpson Miller will be remembered for most.
Certainly, you do not want to go down in history merely as our first female prime minister. But when the pages of history are written, it should show that you have accomplished something to speak of.
I know you do not want to be the only person to have held office and left having not made an imprint of positive, conscious change on a nation's mind. Neither do you want to be remembered as the prime minister that always dodged the media. I would hope not.
Israel's first female Prime Minister Golda Meir is today looked at favourably through the lens of history. Britain's only female prime minister, Margaret Thatcher -- who so happens to have served the longest in the open era -- was not call 'The Iron Lady' because she was hated, but rather for her tough political and personal decisions.
Prime Minister Simpson Miller, am I putting you in a class out of your league? I think not.
Don't worry, though, there is still time for you to catch up. One thing you could do that would have us looking at you as a strong and decisive leader is to give us the FINSAC report. We would all respect you for it.
What will you consider your greatest achievement from holding public office, Prime Minister Simpson Miller? When I check I keep coming up at a loss. Please don't let me keep coming up empty-handed.
