Dear Editor,
The only winners here, in the Westmoreland by-election, are the 68 per cent who did not even bother to turn up to vote. Hearty congratulations much!
This is the perfect way of demonstrating their disenchantment with the poor quality of Jamaican politics, governance and representation offered to them.
But, of course, this is not worrisome in any way to the movers and shakers, whose only objective is to be seated in the House.
No need for anyone to gloat now about winning, but rather, they should realise that 68 per cent is a huge number of "protest votes". This they did in order to display their dissatisfaction; thus the silent majority is speaking very loud and clear.
The real job now is to find out what has caused such disenchantment in an otherwise vibrant voting constituency. There is a big problem here, and, definitely, "something is rotten in the state of Denmark".
