Dear Editor,
While the mosquito nuisance has been part and parcel of our Portmore existence, we are now experiencing mosquito infestation akin to the plague visited upon ancient Egypt in biblical times.
The situation, to my mind, deteriorated during the final stanza of the tenure of our late former mayor, George Lee, and has got worse since then.
Current status: Chronic.
Portmore residents will attest to the fact that one has to ensure that homes are fully 'secured' from the infamous "Portmore bird" by 4:00 pm each day, or risk unwelcome visitors for the greater part of the night.
We have had to invest in mosquito-fighting equipment, such as an electronic zapper, which requires frequent charging to assist in our daily defence against the army of mosquitoes. God help those who are without air-conditioning units or fans.
As I pen this letter, my wife stands guard armed with her zapper in a courageous attempt to keep these flying objects (FO) at bay while I type.
Is the Portmore Municipal Council on an indefinite break? Is the Ministry of Health too busy fighting CHIKV or Ebola to care?
Portmore needs help now!
SOS (save our skins) from mosquitoes.
From the front lines of the battle...
