Dear Editor,
I am bemused and insulted by the pronouncement of the Minister Horace Dalley that the unions and its members should show restraint in wage negotiations.
I would love to know if he ever leaves the air-conditioned rooms of his office or SUV, or if he has to struggle to buy gas and groceries every week. I wonder if he has to deal with repairing his vehicle’s suspension because of bad roads, in addition to paying ever-increasing fees imposed by Government. I wonder if he has to stand in line at the tax office to pay taxes; a tax because someone dared to start a business.
I wonder if Minister Dalley remembers when they, the politicians, were asked to consider restraint in their pay and benefits some years ago. Does he remember the references to "optics" to the pronouncement from on high? Well, I remember that we asked you to share in our sacrifice to improve our budget position.
So some people are not in the mood for restraint in working with you, Minister and those of you who did not think to empathisze with us and at least demonstrate that you understand the plight of the people.
I would recommend you and your colleagues find a way to grow the economy without resorting to maintaining the slavery that we, the workers, have been under while you, who have claimed the role of masters, "shell out" all over the world at our expense.
