Dear Editor,

I have read the letter titled, 'Shame, JUTC, do something', published in the Friday, January 9, 2015 edition of the Jamaica Observer.

Let me first apologise to the three students who were victims of a bad experience and to all our commuters who witnessed the alleged response of one of our drivers to these students.

The Jamaica Urban Transit Company, in its quest to improve the state of public transportation in the Kingston Metropolitan Transport Region, embarked on a series of changes over the last 15 months. We are happy to report that these changes are resulting in significant improvements in the company's performance operationally and financially.

We, however, will hasten to make it absolutely clear that at no time when these changes are put into effect have we instructed any of our front-line staff to be unkind in their interface with the public. Certainly we have never instructed any driver to put a child off the bus.

The circumstances surrounding the situation explained in your publication is being investigated and we will act based on the findings of these investigations.

I would like to take the opportunity to inform the public that we value their feedback and encourage it. We encourage the commuting public to note the fleet numbers on each of our units. We want the public to know that the tickets they receive on entry of a JUTC bus has pertinent information that will help us to deal with the negatives that still need addressing.
