'Town' holding back 'country'

Dear Editor,

Yesterday, I read in the Jamaica Observer West the article about the frustration of Trelawny Cooperative Credit Union's (TCCU) regarding permission to construct a new building and the attitude of the Jamaica National Heritage Trust in Kingston.

It makes me ask why these folks in Kingston are having anything to do with the town's permit. I get it we are part of heritage, but let the Trelawny Parish Council, who must face their constituents at election time, be the responsible party. The ineptness of these folks in Kingston is not in their favour.

The question on a larger scale is how come these folks see it fit to grant approval to foreigners to destroy heritage buildings, and replace it in less than a year, yet TCCU is being hassled. We alll hear about a number of projects that are been held up in the parish for untold reasons. I think it is time to remove the shackle from parish councils and give them autonomy and power. I think that Kingston folks should not determine the pace of our development.
