Dear Editor,

I am writing in response to an article carried by the Observer on February 8, 2015, regarding mobile experience in Eastern St Thomas in which Delano Seiveright was quoted.

I must first thank Delano Seiveright for taking the time to give us his feedback, and we apologise for any challenges that customers in Eastern St Thomas may be experiencing on the Digicel network.

Following the article, our radio engineering team went into over 17 communities in Eastern St Thomas to investigate the matter. Following this investigation, we have found that, while the Digicel mobile service in Eastern St Thomas is generally very good, there are some areas that need to be addressed.

We have since embarked on a project that will see us optimising cell site antennae in four communities, namely Arcadia, Airy Castle, Barking Lodge and Bath. This is scheduled to be completed by the end of February, after which our team will conduct another assessment to ensure that service quality is optimal.

A specialised team will also be visiting the area in the coming months to further analyse the matter for long-term expansion plans.

Digicel recognises that access to reliable mobile service is of great importance to all our customers, and as such we continue to make the necessary investments to ensure that we are delivering on our promise of best service and best network.

We recently conducted an islandwide 4G expansion project to increase population coverage from 80 per cent to 92 per cent. During this exercise, Digicel deployed seven new 4G mobile sites in St Thomas. Coming out of this exercise, the parish of St Thomas is now served by a total of 25 cell sites; 17 of which are 4G Mobile-equipped, thereby delivering greater access to the Internet.

We therefore welcome feedback from all our customers. This will allow us to make the necessary improvements to our services to ensure that we are always delivering a superior mobile experience to all our customers.
