Dear Editor,
International sports is big business and has to be operated as such, and West Indies cricket is no exception.
In big business there is a constant interface with strategic business planning, advertising, marketing, finance, banking, etc. The modern trend is to appoint as the head of a sport personnel with established business experience in the private sector. A recent example is Richard Craig Scudamore of the British Football Premier League (BPL), who has just negotiated additional broadcasting and sponsorship in excess of £3.5 billion on behalf of the BPL for the upcoming season.
Scudamore, a law academic, has a career of 19 years in sales, advertising, marketing, business planning, and operations in two of the world's most competitive businesses, British Telecom and Thompson Corporation.
Delegates casting votes for future West Indies Cricket Board president should think on these things.
