Gloudon apparently forgot one

Dear Editor,

I wish to commiserate with your columnist Barbara Gloudon for her acute loss of short-term memory. Such an affliction can seriously impair the ability to write accurately.

In her column of Friday, March 13, 2015, she rightly bemoans the savage murder of our children. She erroneously states, however, that the "good folk " who held that "mammoth gathering" in Half-Way-Tree in June last year called for "fire and brimstone to rain down on their version of Sodom and Gommorah". Having attended for the entire duration of that event, I can attest that no one did any such thing.

She then criticises the same people for failing to cry out against the "suffering of so many children". The facts are that the sexual and physical abuse of children was condemned at the Half-Way-Tree event. Additionally, Jamaica CAUSE, which hosted that "mammoth gathering", were co-sponsors of a public rally in Emancipation Park as recent as December 2014 on the theme of the rights of the child. At the December rally, prayers were made for the safety of our children and a public call for their protection from abuse and their right to be allowed to "be children".
