Dear Editor,
It was very good to see Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller; sports minister, Natalie Neita-Headley; Minister of Education Ronald Thwaites, and other dignitaries chanting their support for the 2015 Boys' and Girls' Championships at the National Stadium. Having people like these at such events is like athletes having their coaches with them and paving the way for them to strive for higher heights. It's a strong source of encouragement and a vibrant push to the ego. It's an indication of appreciation and delight to the competitors, the organisers of these events, the sponsors, and so on.
Champs 2015 was a success. From all accounts, it was well supported, everything ran smoothly and there was orderly conduct.
Congratulations to Calabar and Edwin Allen and to all the athletes that participated. Overall, everyone did their part.
Champs has a purpose for achieving something great in the sporting arena, specifically track and field, in the near future. We may very well see some of these youngsters representing us in the World Championships and Olympic games.
Finally, the fast-talking Don Topping of Radio Jamaica used to say at the end of a sport report: "...maintain the will to win". I endorse these words and say them to all our athletes.
