Dear Editor,
The coming of Barack Obama has created many changes. It is a pity that because of our great genuine love for the black US president we have had to endure so much injustice.
Why do we fix our house only when a head of state is coming? I do agree that we all love President Obama, but why should we break down the stalls of the common man to accommodate the president. We should keep our house clean at all times to ensure that we can have any world leader at any time.
I know President Obama would be very sad if he were to understand that people of the lowest echelons of our society are being sidelined to accommodate him. This is a man who loves the poor and dispossessed.
How are these people going to earn a living when their stalls have been destroyed? You are talking about people's livelihood.
The street people are being captured like wild dogs in these concrete jungles and placed into temporary places of safety. Why not permanent places of safety?
What can we do to stop this madness which seems to pervade the society when what we need is stability? We are truly short distance runners, as we all know, but we need to do some long stretches and see how we can clear some of the unanswered conundrums which seem to humbug us. We need to stand up and be counted as true men belonging to a modern world and stop the pretending.
I agree this is a momentous occasion and we should be proud that this iconic character has chosen our shores. Still, our leaders need to have vision and think long term, instead of doing these mumbo jumbo activities. We have to be proactive more than reactive for the betterment of the people and our society at large. We need to be more apolitical and work for the comprehensive advancement of our society.
