Dear Editor,
It was indeed a great honour to host the president of the United States, if only for a night. This might just give other Caribbean islands another reason to be even more jealous of us.
However, our behaviour as Jamaicans was an utter disgrace. Unlike many, we may have the privilege of free speech, but the manner in which our prime minister has been discussed and depicted over social media illustrates nothing but disrespect. We have proven to the world how uncivilised and uneducated we are. Left to our vices we would destroy ourselves without even noticing.
How is Jamaica to grow with a set of youth so indisciplined and untrained? The reason the country will not get better is because of this lack of pride and unity.
I would never negate the fact that more could be done by our politicians and more should be done. However, there is a forum to air every issue, and Obama's visit was not it.
Youth, it is expected that we will be the innovators of our generation not the downfall of it. I implore you to rise above this level of illiteracy and put your brains to work to building a better country for the next generation.
