Don't blame pedestrians, Shaw and Jones

Dear Editor,

It is a miracle no one has been killed on the Cross Roads pedestrian crossing. The roads at this crossing seem built for motorists and not pedestrians.

And, only in Jamaica, it seems, that you have highly paid government agency heads who have no knowledge of what is going on the ground. Listening to Dionne Jackson Miller's programme on Tuesday, June 9, 2015, Stephen Shaw suggested that "because of Jamaicans' walking habits" they get hurt. Dr Lucien Jones, chairman of the National Road Safety Council, also implied that pedestrians are at fault.

I am wondering if Shaw does not believe he has a responsibility to Jamaican taxpayers, as well as Jones, who earn from taxpayers. It is a sad case that we in this country as effectively "looked down on" and blamed by those we employ, who have failed to put measures in place to protect us.

We wonder why our Government cannot find those who are true patriots, and those who have the interest of the country and interest of the masses, and are rather than insensitive to the man who is a "foot walker".

There are so many potential death traps across the Corporate Area. I always wonder how tought it must be for Holy Childhood students on Balmoral Avenue as they proceed to and from school.

Fix the roadways!
