Dear Editor,
The World Championships is just around the corner and I am so delighted to know that some of our Jamaican athletes will be competing in some exciting showdowns.
If I am not mistaken, Asafa Powell has won four consecutive races so far this season, and it is so good to see him on the comeback trail; looking very threatening, and seems to be in top shape. However, the regrettable fact still remains: He is yet to win a personal gold medal in the superior events -- the World Championships and Olympics.
If Asafa can maintain his good condition and fitness, with a courageous composure and confidence, it will then be possible for him to win his first. That would be a great and awesome boost to the youngster, and one he so needs and deserves. So, let's keep our fingers crossed and our hope alive that he will strike and shine this time.
On the other hand, we are glad to see the return of the Beast. We say, welcome to Yohan Blake. We are also hoping to see you blaze to victory come August.
Kaliese Spencer puts the icing on the cale. She seems to be in excellent shape and has been victorious in so many Diamond League races. She seems to be in perfect touch. She, like Asafa, is without a gold medal from the superior meets, therefore, we are also supporting her as a winner in the 400-metres hurdles this time around.
We are all hoping and praying that our athletes will all do well again in the upcoming World events, and that there will be no injuries, setbacks, false starts, or disappointments.
And it is also good to know that the field of athletics can transform their lives.
