Dear Editor,
It is with great concern that I mention the disrespectful utterance of the TVJ hostess Talia Soares on the Intense programme last Saturday, June 13, 2015.
In a discussion about transgender woman, Caitlyn Jenner, Soares saw it fit to refer to this human being as "it". We cannot condone this kind of derogatory reference about people on our national television station. This is the kind of transphobia which breeds hate in the society. Transgender people worldwide are already experiencing much prejudice, discrimination, and violence related to being transgender.
A word to Soares: Transgender people deserve respect -- not scorn. This level of respect should a be a standard part of training for all media personnel. Journalism is serious business, and with it comes a level of responsibility. Leave it alone if you can't manage it.
I think there should be an immediate apology and retraction from the producers of the show and from Soares.

Can't call a human being 'it'
