I could not help but notice the move by the iconic Seprod Group of Companies to invest $5 billion in Jamaica via upgrades intended to increase efficiency.
But what has impressed me most is the company's immediate decision to pass on savings to consumers, with the simultaneous announcement of a reduction in the price of its Cool Fruit brand of packaged drinks by almost 35 per cent.
It's the way for a Jamaican business to go in fighting back against competition in the expanding packaged drinks industry. Media reports regarding $3.7 billion worth of annual imports of packaged drinks into Jamaica from the region are astonishing.
But CEO of Seprod, Richard Pandohie, must be lauded for not wining about $3.7 billion worth of imports from the region, but rather developing a strategy to increase competitiveness, while being sensitive to the challenges facing consumers.
