Dear Editor,
The letter to the editor published in the July 9, 2015 edition of the Daily Observer, entitled 'St Catherine West Central needs a Ken Baugh' by Jasmine Phinn is clearly an attempt at diverting from the real issues in St Catherine West Central.
The issue of the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) selection has nothing to do with either Devon Wint or Christopher Tufton being entitled to succeed Dr Baugh. Rather, it's an issue of choosing the more experienced and the best candidate to represent the people of that constituency.
In so doing, it is an issue of ensuring that the democratic process in selecting a candidate is fair and transparent, and the people of St Catherine West Central choose the best candidate using this means.
The real tragedy with this process is a JLP Secretariat, one officer in particular, declaring himself a member of Wint's campaign team, and an attempt at including names on the voters' list that were never registered as workers with the party. Names incidentally that happen to originate from Wint's Point Hill Division. The tragedy within the JLP is of leadership constantly disrespecting the delegates and workers, contributing to internal divisiveness, court action and, ultimately, election losses.
