Dear Editor,
I would like to use your medium to bring to our attention another grand opportunity for another world record by a Jamaican, with the attendant publicity that we could never afford for this beautiful country.
Violet Brown, the oldest Jamaican ever, at age 115 years, 115 days on August 15, 2015, is now the world's third oldest-living person and the first verified Jamaican supercentenarian. She resides in Duanvale, Trelawny.
She was born March 10, 1900, and is the last living former subject of Queen Victoria. Italian Emma Morano-Martinuzz is second at 115 years, 260 days, and American Susannah Mushatt Jones is first at 116 years 41 days.
Violet Brown has the opportunity to be the worlds oldest living. She now has "bronze", and we should help her and cheer her along to get "gold".
If assisted, like our 'world-beating' athletes, our Reggae Girls and Boyz, etc, she would be better able to achieve the record -- another first for Jamaica.
Comforts of life should be provided; medical assistance and round-the-clock care should be arranged. Like an athlete in training she should not be bombarded by the media or others, but protected by her "life coaches".
I am asking that assistance towards achieving this world record be provided by individuals (doctors, physio, etc), corporate, national, and the public. We should all have a part in achieving this world record.
Like the comets in the sky, it might never be in our lifetime that the opportunity presents itself again. Let us just do this.
