Dear Editor,
What an amazing swelling of national pride that all Jamaicans must now be feeling on account of our heroic athletes on the track and in the field. They have all done well, and we are all justly proud of their achievements.
Even as I have expressed some disappointment in Usain, it's only because deep within me I believe that he has so much more to give, because if while being under par he's done so well, I know that if he wants to he can do more.
At the risk of overstretching, I see Usain as having the heart of a lion, the strength of a beetle, the speed of a falcon, the mythological appeal of Hercules, and the bearing of a true legend. Hands down, Usain is just plain gifted!
After Beijing 2015, Elaine Thompson and Javon Francis will have the requisite experience to bring out the golden quality that they, too, have inside.
You know, 89 per cent is really not a bad grade in the grand scheme of grades. But when you realise that it comes so tantalisingly close to 90 per cent, it is most agonising. Oh, so close!
All that now is water under the bridge, as is Beijing 2015. So now, I can't wait for Rio 2016, where Thompson and Francis, plus a number of others, will post new world records! I only hope that the government will buy into the vision and make sure all the athletes have what they need to make this happen.
I truly believe the best is yet to come. Chin up, the only bowing of the head that you're to do now is to acknowledge the applause of a country that simply adores you.
You've all done well. Go, Team Jamaica!
