Is this the JLP's idea of foreign relations?

Dear Editor,

I see the Opposition Leader and his spokesperson continue to publicly push the cause of a convicted sexual child offender, regardless of the name which the convict chooses to attach to the offence. This includes hosting a press conference on his behalf. Is that their personal best as far as contributing to Jamaica's foreign relations is concerned? We have not heard one iota from them in this regard, other than "the man from Qatar", since they lost the 2011 General Election. If this is their best foreign relations effort no wonder they continue to be unelectable to the people of Jamaica.

And, by the way, I continue to wait for even one from among them to seek to enquire as to the welfare of that young girl in the incident, who has likely been traumatised and scarred for life.

As to the way this matter is being "handled" by certain media practitioners, apart from the projected "nothingness" of the offence, consider this, journalists are told: "I called Mr Nicholson on his cellphone while in prison...he said to me that I should be careful ...and hung up on me." So, that is what is published, without more to show whether it was mean and disrespectful to have warranted such a response.

The obvious quick follow-up question, of course, is: What would you do were you in the minister's place? Would the answer not have shed some light on the integrity of the interview as a whole?

The politcal pushing of this matter has been so very unfortunate.
