Dear Editor,
Our nation seems to be sleeping always while the ardent inconsiderable companies seize the opportunity to give inferior services and charge more money. Have we not noticed the latest move by the cable company, Flow, to remove pretty much all the wanted movie channels and replacing it with nothing wanted? Shame on us.
If you call the Consumer Affairs Commission, Office of Utilities Regulations, the Broadcasting Commission, and all they will do is tell you what the cable company told them; that is, they are not aware that the public at large has a issue with the changes.
The reason there is no massive outcry is that many people don't know who to whom to complain. And if you do contact an agency that is mandated to protect you, like in my case, the representative may advise you to upgrade your package and pay more. What a shock! I then wondered if that representative is getting a commission from the cable company for such promotion.
And what about the various media outlets? It's election time, so nothing else matters. Folks, we are failing ourselves and basically asking to be treated the way we are being treated.
My fellow Jamaicans, take the time out to notice changes around you. Don't wait until it's too late then you proclaim you did not know. Demand quality service and for companies to respect you as customers. Believe me, they need us more that we need them. But they will not accept that until you send a clear message indicating our alertness and high expectation for fair and quality service.
