Dear Editor
Incensed is among the flurry of emotions I experienced when I heard news that the head girl of the Anglican Diocesan St Hilda's High School was dismissed because her denomination was purported to be Jehovah's Witness.
Over the past few weeks there has been outcry. I will not seek to reiterate what has been said. Neither will I reiterate what the principled procedure to such an action by any responsible official should have been. But, Principal Heather Reid-Johnson, what is your intention, Madam?
I just seek to understand what message you're seeking to impart to our young people. What exactly was/is your intention by such an act? Our world is already so segregated by this 'framework' that was intended to unite -- Religion. I guess we should be thanking our Saviour that we aren't living in the Middle East. Please spare us your, dare I say, ludicrousness that there was a conflict of duty, because young Jade had not sought to contest or fulfil duties required of her.
So, again, Madam Principal, I ask, what message are you sending to our young people? You have been privileged to chaperone these no doubt auspicious young girls of St Hilda's High School, why now clip their wings? I urge you to recognise the error in your judgement and correct it, fast!
Note to Jade Bascoe: Young Jade, I encourage you to not see this 'judgement' as judgement, but rather a launching pad for you to soar to new heights. Let no one clip your wings, my little sister.
