We want the truth on the health crisis!

Dear Editor,

My conscience is under severe stress. I am a professional employed to the Ministry of Health. As a person who believes in the Lord Jesus Christ, I was moved to let the world know the truth about the breakdown of infection control in our hospitals.

I am also moved by scripture, Proverbs 28:18: Whoever walks in integrity will be delivered, but he who is crooked in his ways will suddenly fall.

I simply cannot understand why people who should know better are so cruel and unwilling to be truthful.

As far back as July/August doctors and nurses at the University Hospital of the West Indies and other hospitals raised concerns about infections. I also know for a fact that a meeting was held at the Ministry of Health in July/August on infection control issues. The lack of water, soap, gloves, tissue, hand cleaners, masks, and protective clothing was suggested as responsible for this crisis. The repeat use of disposables must also be a big part of the crisis. The fact that surgeons had to be wearing garbage bags because of the lack of proper protective clothing is an indication of the wreck in the heart of our hospitals.

How do we truly know only 18 babies died?

Why is the minister afraid to publish the health audit to shine a light on the whole system?

I pray that the day will come when these men and women are removed from office and replaced with decent God-fearing people who care. Cronyism and politics have destroyed the Ministry of Health. Nobody gets promoted fairly anymore. It's all politics. It seems they all cover for each other.

Please, don't be fooled. We need more investigative journalists to dig deep.
