Dear Editor,
Health Minister Fenton Ferguson seems to be a shameless egomaniac. He fails to realise that the 18 dead babies is not the only reason Jamaicans want him to step down. This is just the latest of a progression of errors and bad decisions on his part.
And if he thinks they want him out because of political reasons, guess what? That's the reason he is there in the first place. Now he is thinking that the call to resign is actually a call for him to 're-sign' as a candidate. As we speak, the voters from the parish of Bogle and Gordon must be sobbing in their rum and coconut water, wondering where did they go so wrong. The Bath Mineral Spa must now be even saltier for the tears.
Don't blame yourself. Blame an outdated voting system, where a vote for the prime minister automatically becomes a vote for the Member of Parliament (MP). Is it so difficult to have separate votes for MP and PM on the same ballot? This system needs to change, pronto, lest we are forced to make the same mistake again and again.
