Dear Editor,
"Dishing dirt" seems to be the main course at the People's National Party (PNP). I am imploring my fellow Jamaicans to quit dining at their restaurant. It is rather distasteful that Dr Peter Phillips would dish out such a desperate promise that 100,000 jobs will be created. It is quite obvious that Dr Phillips and his PNP Administration have no regard for the people of Jamaica; they treat us all as fools, even the ones who vote for them.
The people are tired of their schemes and unfulfilled promises. We are not living in a fool's paradise to take comfort in such a claim. There are already many broken campaign promises. They promised to remove GCT from electricity and that promise has not been kept. Neither have they been true to their word regarding the promotion of transparency and accountability. This list is so long we could write a book or publish a magazine called The Broken Promises.
Common sense tells us that large-scale job creation can only be done from a significant investment over a broad spectrum ranging from small to large ventures. We have seen none of this under the PNP economic policies; their policies are overwhelming with taxes and brutal deflation which restrain the demands of consumers and hinder business expansion.
How can we take seriously this promise of 100,000 jobs when the Government has not delivered one major investment project which would provide some impetus for the creation of jobs? The 381-megawatt energy project was botched due to ministerial incompetence and recklessness and has had to be refashioned. And what can we say of the logistics hub, which seems far-fetched in light of Anthony Hylton's hopeless stewardship.
