The despicable abortion tussle

The truth, which incensed the lone gunman who attacked the abortion-aiding Planned Parenthood Clinic in Colorado, USA, close to the end of November 2015, is the same truth which the female clients of the said clinic face. The truth, though contrary to the reverberating adage about it, should really be like "a slap in the face", the kind which is more of a revelation or disappointment rather than a hurtful "burn". This slap in the face makes the wise wiser. The said gunman, and the women and girls whose decision to terminate their pregnancies had hurt him, are devoid of such wisdom.

Part of the truth of abortion is that it is difficult to fully understand how a woman or girl feels leading up to her making such a decision. I suppose it is akin to feeling an excruciating but dull pain that she just wants to ease.

Pain, however, also has an elusive definition, and it can either be as complex as being emotional in its nature and genesis, or as basic and instinctive as hunger pangs. Indeed, some mothers of biblical times have had to resort to eating their young ones during harsh famines, and at other times offered them up as sacrifices of appeasement to certain gods, more out of belief rather than natural forces.

Only if anti-abortion activists -- including the "hurt" ones like that murderous Colorado gunman, friends, families, expectant fathers, the institution of health care, and the society on a whole, who are related to prospective aborting mothers -- would offer support and wisdom to these confused, "aching and hungry" mothers-to-be, instead of judging and abusing them, then we might more likely be able to upgrade unwanted pregnancies to healthy unplanned pregnancies, and ultimately to wanted, planned and honourable ones.

Before this happens, though, we have to adjust the direction of our hunger from that which is temporary, unfulfilling and disposable to that which is not, lest we view the truth and goodness of things which God has given us, such as pregnancies and our offspring, as just that; temporary, unfulfilling and disposable.
