The Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) and its associates are clearly developing an uncomfortable trend that mirrors that of the 1980s, which was Jamaica’s most politically violent period.
The trends are obvious; however, we refuse as a people to speak about them.
Fact one: Andrew Holness declared on a public platform that if you vote for the People’s National Party (PNP) you will ‘wake up dead’.
Fact Two: The brutal slaying of Miss Sadie Forbes, a PNP worker who was gunned down at her gate, occurredly reportedly for removing a political flag.
Fact Three: The arrest of Rameish Simpson, a well-known JLP activist, following the seizure of a sub-machine gun in St Thomas. This was after a high-speed chase. We all heard of Simpson in 2009 when St Thomas Western member of parliament and JLP deputy leader, James Robertson, had the stand-off with the police and Simpson was shot and injured by the police.
Fact Four: The firebombing of the deputy mayor of Montego Bay’s office, which got very low media coverage.
Fact Five: The shooting/robbery of former Mayor of Spanish Town Dr Raymoth Notice, who it has been rumoured was planning to cross the political floor.
Fact Six: Members of the fire services came under gunfire after trying to extinquish the blaze at the Retirement landfill in St James. While this was happening, there was a protest about smoke nuisance.
These trends hark back to the past to bring about public panic and a lack of faith in the current Government.
Holness said that crime goes up when the PNP is in power. However, what these trends are clearly showing is that crime goes up when the JLP are seeking power.
