Promise is a comfort to a fool!

Dear Editor,

In 2011 when the ruling People ‘s National Party (PNP) was campaigning for the general election they promised sincerely that, if they won the election, they would construct a children’s hospital in St James.

Many Jamaicans, especially in the western end of the island, were anticipating the construction of the hospital after the PNP took office. It is now four years now and the hospital is neither here nor there.

Since taking office, Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller and her party has made little or no mention of the construction of the hospital. It is a slap in the face to the citizens of Jamaica, as it would have made life easier for many. It would eradicate the long travelling to Kingston and it would also cut travelling expenses.

The Bustamante Hospital for Children’s is currently the only hospital for children in Jamaica and it was built by the Jamaica Labour Party in the 1960s. It’s now quite evident that the country is in need of another hospital for children.

How much longer will the citizens of Jamaica wait on the construction of another hospital for children? Will the PNP campaign on another hospital for children in the next general election? Why is it the PNP doesn’t like to fulfil its promises? High time now for the citizens of Jamaica to realise that PNP promises are never fulfilled.
