Dear Editor,
Did the IMF abandon ship because of poor leadership? The PNP gained power in 1989 and that was the beginning of the end for the Jamaican economy.
Throughout the 1990s we saw the destruction of the manufacturing sector, the agricultural sector and the destruction of the financial sector, which ended with FINSAC that crippled the Jamaican economy and continues to this day to affect the economic lives of many in our society.
The PNP leadership throughout the 1990s has been the costliest in the history of the country in terms of its impact on growth and development of the country. The then government, headed by PJ Patterson, was responsible for the largest transfer of wealth from the poor to the rich that the country has ever seen.
Fast-forward to 2012, Jamaica is more indebted than ever before, the NIR is at an all-time low and criminals have declared war on the citizens. Criminals rule because of the justice system that is broken. Desperation is at an all-time high, confidence is at an all-time low and with the reinstating of the scrap metal trade, scavenging and the destruction of what's left of the infrastructure has already begun.
My question is, what does the IMF know about the PNP government that the average Jamaican doesn't?
