Dear Editor,
Think big! That’s what Jamaica needs, and the only way for us to dig ourselves out of this desperate situation we’ve found ourselves in is for us to focus on new and innovative ways of growing our economy and creating jobs, jobs and more jobs.
We were sold a promise of jobs in 2011 and today, at the beginning of 2016, those jobs are nowhere in sight. Unemployment, and not to mention underemployment, is a common feature of our Jamaican society and growth is a figment of our imagination.
We hear grand announcements from time to time and our hearts leap at the possibility of better than what is, but these announcements rarely amount to anything and we are once again left in a state of hopelessness.
After four years under the People’s National Party (PNP) Administration, I am rather anxious to see what a Jamaica Labour Party Government will do. That party’s leader is talking the talk, he seems to know the direction in which we need to head and, quite frankly, I’m among many Jamaicans waiting to see whether he will be the wind of change we so crave.
I hear him talking about growth; it’s something he’s been talking about for quite some time and the PNP Administration seems to see no merit in pursuing such a path. I believe he’s on to something and I’m not going to be one of those to “stick with the evil I know”. I rather think it’s wise to pursue the road less travelled in the hope that there lies at least some prosperity.
