Dear Editor,
It was a parade of snobbery by candidate Juliet Holness to have hosted her constituency “welcoming or coming out” conference at Jamaica College and not within the constituency of St Andrew East Rural.
In my opinion, this was symbolic of conceit and a slap in the face of us, the constituents, by someone who is seeking our support to become the member of parliament.
Is Donald Quarrie High School — that I once attended — too local for her and the upper echelons of the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP), or is it that the ambience of our communities is not conducive to her style of living?
It has become quite noticeable that Juliet Holness has been making multiple runs on social media
(Facebook, Twitter and
Instagram), posing for photo opportunities in St Andrew East Rural while making many promises. However, when she got the first real opportunity to show that she is for and with the people and will share in our reality, off she and her band of “high-ups” went to Jamaica College, which is not even in our constituency. What a shame and a sham!
I hope we the constituents of St Andrew East Rural remember this; that she sent us a message that we were unworthy of such an event, and instead opted for the more “prestigious” Jamaica College.
Such a decision, in my mind, makes it clear that she cannot be taken as genuine, after such scant regard for us, based on the location of her meeting.
Holness has made us feel like a woman who is good for everything else other than meeting the man’s family.
Well, Juliet Holness, on behalf of the people of St Andrew East Rural, let me say how good it was to have met you, and now that we know who you really are, we refuse to be your stepping stone to achieving your personal ambitions of political grandeur.
We need a member of parliament who believes that we are worthy enough to at least keep their first meeting/constituency conference in the actual constituency.
Born a St Andrew East Rural...but nuh fool
