We need to take this country back

Dear Editor,

All the best to you and your team and good luck for the new year.

I want to use your medium to express what many fail to focus on. For those living in the Diaspora, smile and give your face a rest as the worst is coming.

(1) The US dollar will cost J$120 by March.

(2) Madam Prime Minister will end her two-year tenure by November, making way for the blue-eyed baby Sir Minister of Energy.

(3) The man ailing in Cuba will pass on by February, the Petro Caribe oil deal will end, and there goes our gold mine.

(4) Crime will be at an all-time high and suicide will be the new trend.

(5) No IMF deal will be inked until civil servants and all others decide to take a major wage cut; all sectors will commence demonstrations, so much so there will be no police to control

the population.

(6) All media houses presently supporting stupidity will begin to feel the pinch and start reporting the facts as they see them, once new taxes are applied to them in April. All those journalists who got their education through the socialist government will start putting a new meaning to the word socialism.

(7) Aruba and St Lucia will be the destinations of choice for the wealthy who will commence hiding their resources until Mr Rainy Day; the Chinese will close all the downtown shops, and prostitution and robbery will be the new trade in these parts.

(8) And finally, the JEEP will eventually get a driver, but one who doesn't have a driver's licence or the ability to manoeuvre a vehicle, hence the JEEP will capsize and the term will end in three years.

I am no doctor Phinn, but the writing is on the wall. Those who have ears will hear and those with eyes will see. I pray that with all this we may find the space in our hearts to love each other and release ourselves of the tribal nature and walk to Stony Gut like Paul Bogle and commence to fight for our rights as citizens of this country. Tribal politics has destroyed this country to the point where persons with sense have ceased to exercise their democratic rights and have allowed the 'buy a beer' mentality to capture logic. These people sit on a corner all day long, then on election day, the supposedly sensible folks give them the task to determine our future.

Until sensible minds regain control of this country, we will remain on a path of destruction. Those who got a chance to make something of themselves should remember, however, that they made their livelihood in this little island. Stop allowing poorly educated people to make decisions that affect us all. It's time to take back this country and let good sense prevail.

PS ... My heartfelt condolences to the Richards family in Mandeville. It's a pity that after making it so far in life they resorted to committing suicide. It may be too late but I still pray for their souls.

My friends, the year has started and I wish I could feel a greater sense of hope but all I feel is despair. Let's stand up and take this country back from simple minds. Education is a tool. Let's use it!
