Dear Editor,
When I read the Prime Minister's New Year message, I was so turned off. It lacked passion, sincerity and was empty and unnecessarily poetic.
In hard times, a great leader pulls out all the stops to inspire and unite, while showing a vision that's hopeful.
The PMs message began: "CELEBRATING the advent of a new year always reminds me of the wonder of a glorious Jamaican sunrise. I greet you with the love, light, warmth, and energy of this new dawn."
Surely the PM could've come up with a more enlightening message, one which was down to earth, realistic, inspiring, hopeful, even reassuring, considering the challenges the country continues to face. The message even spoke about ancestors calling upon us "to gaze into our past", and "reflections ... until we see into our mind's eyes."
Was she daydreaming, or awakened suddenly from some bizarre nightmare?
Your people are suffering, "Sister P", and many are desperate, even destitute. There were such high hopes and enthusiasm for you and your new PNP administration when you won the mandate decisively a year ago. All the promises, excitement & new energy, even as you mixed youth with experience amongst your new team. No one is shining in your administration, Madam, not even those we assumed would, and the country now seems to be running on auto pilot. You are rarely seen or heard these days, then we hear you're "leading from behind". What a joke, and after your first year, we are really seeing more of the same old, same old, and your priorities, managerial and leadership skills are now being questioned.
For your first year, a failing grade overall, Madam, no vision, vibrancy, enthusiasm. We understand the challenges, but you must inspire to gain support and momentum; And you're now speaking about "glorious Jamaican sunrise"? With all due respect, Madam, give me a break.
