Dear Editor,
Generation 2000 (G2K) notes the curious response from Minister of Transport & Works Dr Omar Davies. We have not seen the report from the Office of the Contractor General (OCG) yet, if in fact there is such a report.
As such G2K cannot respond to any call premised on its purported contents. We are indeed happy to know that the OCG has not divorced himself from his duties as his silence would have suggested. Also, it is highly irregular and inappropriate that Minister Davies is making public statements on behalf of the contractor general on the matter.
That said, however, G2K did not assert allegations, we merely asked questions as is our right so to do. We will not be intimidated into not seeking answers for the people of Jamaica. Secondly, we renew our call for Dr Davies and the Government to explain how expenditure of $150 million on a fence is justified in light of the plight facing the health sector and general poverty stalking the land. It cannot be justified. In terms of priority and putting the people’s interest first, it is a vulgar approach to governance.
Dr Omar Davies has no moral authority to ask any Jamaican for an apology. We have waited nearly 20 years for an apology from him for his handling of Finsac.
G2K further reminds the minister and the OCG that none of the specific questions posed has been answered, and none of the documents requested for public scrutiny has been published.
