Dear Editor,
Jamaica is a country that is far from being election-worthy. It’s not worthy, neither can it be trusted with a general election, when it comes to peace, security and good behaviour. Because, whenever the time comes for a general election in this country, there is always violence, contention, strife and deaths. And, please don’t tell me that it’s not only in Jamaica that violence raises its ugly head during election times.
People are already hard-pressed and are weighed down with stiff challenges, financial difficulties, and are certainly locked in out of fear and intimidation. And here comes another testing, dangerous general election, which has certainly ignited and triggered more pressures and problems on the people.
We have already heard the desperate cry, time and time again, from the public, “Enough is enough” with regard to crime, and this season compounds their problems.
We should abandon all forms of election in the interest of peace.
I am appealing to all the warlike supporters of both parties to accept the results and try and exercise some self-control; don’t lift your hands to shed blood, abstain from malicious intentions and keep the peace.
While many people have decided not to exercise their franchise, by not voting in this 2016 General Election because of dissatisfaction and mismanagement by our leaders, crime is another reason the voting turn out has not risen to the max.
Congratulations to the winning party. We wish you and your team success in all your endeavors.
