Dear Editor,
As a concerned citizen of Montego Bay, who is a nationalist and is loyal to my country, I am calling on Prime Minister Andrew Michael Holness and his Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) Administration to immediately embrace Jamaica’s National Development Plan, Vision 2030, that intends to have a prosperous economy which will provide the foundation and resources for building a better society in which the ordinary people can have the chance to enjoy a fulfilling life.
The new Government will have to embrace a transformational and progressive leadership style which promotes effective governance, higher growth in our economy, empowerment of families and communities to solve conflicts, and shared power and authority.
The new prime minister stated in his inaugural speech that he is seeking to forge a partnership with all sectors of society. The country’s excellent National Development Plan seeks to do just that guides the nation’s development in the years ahead.
As prime minister, Holness will have to inspire the people to work in harmony with a central and specific goal of achievement, and to help change the old mindset of the people. This new governance will require the participation of Government, the private sector and civil society.
Most importantly, though, Holness and his Administration will have to decide to strengthen the capacity of communities to participate in creating a secure society free from the monsters of crime, violence and corruption, which continue to plague many communities.
The JLP Government must not leave any stones unturned as it seeks for the avenue to encourage fellow Jamaicans to participate meaningfully in our National Development Plan; to help transform Jamaica to the standard we want it to be in the near future.
