Dear Editor,
While reading yourJamaica Observer’s letters to the editor pages I read an instructive letter written by Robert Dalley calling on Ralston Hyman to resign or be replaced as an Economic Programme Oversight Committee (EPOC) member for he has been a strong supporter of the People’s National Party through his
Power 106 FM Real Business morning show and on Lambert Brown’s Newstalk 93 FM evening discussion show.
On many occasions while listening to Hyman before the last general election on those radio programmes and on other public platforms, I have heard Hyman regularly stating that to vote for the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) would smash up the economy and the correct thing to do is to vote for the People’s National Party (PNP) and allow Dr Peter Phillips to continue with the International Monetary Fund programme.
Based on his firm support for the PNP, Simpson Miller and Phillips before the general election, he should do the decent thing and immediately resign as an EPOC member. The EPOC is not a political committee and, therefore, Hyman’s tenure as an EPOC member, even for him, should be untenable.
The letter writer, Robert Dalley, is so correct, Hyman is not an independent financial analyst and his constant promotion of the PNP and Peter Phillips precludes him from continuing to serve on EPOC.
I wholeheartedly join Dalley in asking that Hyman resign from EPOC.
Sir Ralston, do not allow your credibility to be tarnished.
