Dear Editor,
There have been several stories referring to how patients are treated poorly at hospitals in Jamaica. So one could understand if I told you that, prior to my stay at the University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI), I had concerns, or actually felt terrified.
However, on the contrary, it was quite a pleasant experience.
I was so comfortable and pleased with the services of the staff at UHWI, who took such great care of me, that I was moved to write something.
I must express love and appreciation to all the nurses and doctors at UHWI where I was a patient on Ward Nine from Tuesday, April 5, 2016 to Sunday, April 10, 2016. The nurses and doctors who worked both night and day shifts at that ward did an excellent job. I received the kind of love and attention I didn’t know still existed in Jamaican hospitals. Even the ancilliary staff made my stay memorable. They did their jobs with the most pleasant attitude. The hospital was so clean and smelled so pleasant it’s unbelievable.
Special thanks to Dr Medley and her team of hard-working young doctors. I must mention Dr Hunter by name, a wonderful young doctor who I’m sure is heading for great things with God’s help.
Thanks again to you all. It’s an experience that has left an indelible impression.
