Dear Editor,

The excitement on the heels of the Windies’ World T20 triumph has been uncontrollable. “Champion…champion…everybody know West Indies a champion!”

Undoubtedly, DJ Bravo’s new music single will be the most played song in the Caribbean for weeks to come.

The euphoria, joy and eternal jubilation of being crowned royals of the T20 game has hit all corners of the West Indies. Even the local puss and dog have temporarily put their differences aside and have joined in the celebrations. I, for one, have been doing the ‘champion dance’ non-stop — dancing not being my talent. But, hey, total joy and bliss can make a fool of all of us.

The Under-19s were the first to make it to the winner’s circle in February, and two months later the senior men’s and women’s teams have duly obliged. If there is ever a time that a treble was to be deemed a ‘hat-trick’, this is it. Houdini in his prime would have struggled to produce such an unexplained wonder.

As has become customary, the West Indies was involved in yet another nail-biting, edge-of-the-seat, high-intensity thriller of a contest. If you ever want to witness, or experience, all possible emotions known to man, watch a game involving the West Indies. PS: Don’t forget to bring your pressure tablets!

From being in a position of certain victory to a state of definite defeat, the Caribbean boys displayed great resilience, perseverance and faith. That final over, in which Ben Stokes was completely battered by Carlos Brathwaite, will forever be written in the history books as one of the most devastating of all time. I think it’s safe to say neither Ben nor his family will be spending their vacation on our islands any time soon.

Hopefully the next step for the Windies will be to transfer this fine form to the extended versions of the game. It is quite evident that the talent is there. The right mentality and levels of concentration will now have to be implemented for the team to extend its success to all formats.

We, as Caribbean fans, have been waiting a very long time for our team to re-establish its worldwide dominance of the sport. Let’s hope these are among the first few steps to truly bringing back the ‘good ole days’.

Thank you, West Indies, for the unbridled joy and happiness. Huge and hearty congratulations to the kings and queens of the ICC World T20. Job well done! Also, a very special ‘big up’ to the

Jamaica Observer for the exceptional coverage and match reports throughout the tournament. You are both champions!
